Pulmonary arteriovenous malformation.

چکیده
A35-year-old white woman with a history of migraine headaches and a grade 2 systolic murmur presented with symptoms of slurred speech, left-sided facial droop, and left hemiparesis after a hysterectomy. These symptoms resolved over several days, and in an effort to identify a potential cardiac source of embolism, a transesophageal echocardiogram was performed. Findings were consistent with a rightto-left shunt, with intravenous saline contrast entering the left upper pulmonary vein (Figure 1A). An MRI study of the chest demonstrated a pulmonary arteriovenous malformation (AVM) in the left upper lobe (Figure 1B). The patient underwent pulmonary angiography, which confirmed the pulmonary AVM (Figure 2A) and also identified an additional AVM in the left lower lung. Multiple coils were placed to obliterate both AVMs (Figure 2B). The patient had no physical examination evidence of Osler-Weber-Rendu syndrome, and her systolic murmur was absent after the coil embolization. She was asymptomatic at a 6-month follow-up visit.

Diffuse Pulmonary Arteriovenous Malformation in Children: Essential Value of Contrast Echocardiography in Diagnosis
Pulmonary arteriovenous malformations (PAVM) are abnormal communications between pulmonary arteries and pulmonary veins, and most commonly congenital in nature. Although rare, it is an important consideration in cyanotic patients of unknown cause. We report 3 cases with diffuse PAVM in children with different clinical manifestations and initial diagnosis was made by transthoracic contrast echoc...
متن کاملPulmonary Arteriovenous Malformation Surgery in a Pregnant Woman: A Case Report
Background and purpose: Pulmonary arteriovenous malformations (PAVM) are lung lesions that affect most of the periphery of the lower lobes, and are manifested by dyspnea, hemoptysis, and hemothorax. Pregnancy is one of the conditions in which these malformations appear due to hemodynamic changes and hormonal factors such as increased levels of estrogen. This paper presents the case of a pregna...
متن کاملPulmonary arteriovenous malformation: a rare cause of cyanosis in a child.
Pulmonary arteriovenous malformations are rare vascular anomalies. We report a 12-year-old girl who presented with exertional dyspnoea, cyanosis and clubbing since the age of five years, and multiple pulmonary arteriovenous malformations. Computed tomography pulmonary angiogram showed a large pulmonary arteriovenous malformation at the lower lobe of the right lung. Pulmonary angiogram showed a ...
متن کاملPulmonary arteriovenous malformation mimicking a pulmonary tumour on 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron-emission tomography/computed tomography
Pulmonary arteriovenous malformations are rare congenital abnormal connections between the pulmonary arteries and veins. The patients are usually asymptomatic [1]. Although their aetiology is unclear, it is presumed that genetic abnormalities constitute a predisposition [1, 2]. An arteriovenous malformation might cause serious complications if it remains undiagnosed and untreated [3]. We report...
متن کاملEmergency video-assisted thoracic surgery for ruptured pulmonary arteriovenous malformation-related hemothorax in a pregnant woman: a case report
BACKGROUND Pulmonary arteriovenous malformations are rare vascular abnormalities that permit direct communication between the pulmonary artery and vein. During pregnancy, pulmonary arteriovenous malformation carries an increased risk of enlargement and rupture, which could lead to life-threatening hemothorax. This is the first case reporting successful thoracoscopic surgery for a pregnant woman...
متن کاملLife-threatening haemothorax: a rare presentation of pulmonary arteriovenous malformation.
Arteriovenous malformations of the lung are rare pulmonary vascular disorders which can suddenly lead to life threatening complications. Haemothorax due to rupture of a pulmonary arteriovenous malformation (PAVM) is very rare. We report here a case of a 39 year-old lady who presented with an acute onset of shortness of breath due to right-sided massive haemothorax and was subsequently detected ...
